Upon accepting Dawson and Downey’s case, Lt Kaffee orders Jo to pick up “a carton of legal pads, a half a dozen boxes of red pens, a half a dozen boxes of black pens…?” If the average box has 12 pens, Lt Kaffee believes that he needs roughly 144 pens to handle this case. I am not an attorney, but I have been using the same pen at work for about two months. Why did Kaffee need so many pens?

Love questions like this. It’s also the sort of thing I love about Aaron Sorkin, who never lets logic come in the way of maximizing the rhythm of words. Because, I mean, yeah, that’s a LOT of pens.
